Flying Pancakes@ Manly Library

A new group the "Flying Pancakes" has been established at Manly Library. For older teens in the school years 10-12 the group is meeting monthly to discuss movies and books. Teens who are undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh programme at Manly Library are running the new club. The club title was suggested by Robert, a group member, and Sasha drew the cute "Flying Pancake" logo.

The first meeting was held in February, and it was interesting to discover how widely read todays reading teenager is. A good 50 % of books mentioned as being read recently were what public libraries would consider adult fiction books.

The group is meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 4.30pm to 5.3opm.
You can contact the members of the "Flying Pancakes" by e-mail at flyingpancakes2095@gmail.com

happy christmas everyone

Thanks to Lindy Batchelor for getting the CBC Northern Beaches branch up and running this year. It's a great initiative and we've already held numerous functions (public meetings plus school visits and afternoon teas) to help bring students, authors and books together, and foster a love of reading. Looking forward to our Christmas function tonight, and to hearing Kate Forsyth speaking on the importance of fantasy in our lives. Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and a book-filled new year! Welcome to the Blog

It is very intimidating starting off a blog. Where to start? What to say? How about why we are here?
Our Sub-Branch of the CBCA is a very young one - we are less than a year old, but feel we've begun to make our mark on the world of Children's Books (we hope!). We decided that it was imperative that we have some kind of web-prescence if we were going to really get in touch with the hip-young-things like yourselves. After all, the internet is the mode of communication of the day so we had better get on board!

We intend to bring you up-to-date news from the world of children's books, in-depth reviews, interviews with local authors and information about upcoming events hosted by our little group.

We'll be blogging on books for kids of all ages from fabulous picture books to the really cool, gritty YA stuff out there. We obviously like to think we know what we're talking about, but PLEASE kids, send us your reviews! We would love to know what you think! Email us at cbcanorthernsydney@gmail.com if you've read something recently that you want to tell the world about!
